She comes and goes with the sea foam
Disappearing back into the depths unknown
All that remains is the fleeting warmth of her embrace
I become desperate to keep it from floating away
On this isolated dinghy in Chesapeake Bay
Consoled by the whiskey and gin
Only then do I catch a glimmer of her again
Tasting the salty seawater on soft lips
Running my hands across her tail’s scale ridden tips
Alas all that is gold does not stay
As the buzz of the liquor melts and leaves my veins
Her enchanting serenades begin to fade
Making my glass heart fracture and break
As the leaves on the old Dogwood tree shed
Discarding its worn out green for a striking new red
The fracture in my heart travels upward
The feelings flowing out ready to desert
Then a peculiar site I do see
The sea foam rolls in with the tide and she comes back to me
Time stands still as my heart begins to mend while we dance and laugh happily
Alas all that is gold does not stay
A daughter of the sea she must return one day
So I’ll sit here on this pier and wait
Till the leaves don their green color on the old Dogwood tree
Here in Chesapeake bay
